Tabuoy: a tab and session manager that keeps local backups (and how to move from OneTab or Session Buddy)
Tabuoy is a free Chrome extension that saves your open tabs and windows as sessions and restores them with one click. It was built around one goal: your saved tabs should not disappear when something goes wrong.

Why another tab manager?
Most tab managers keep your sessions in a single place inside the browser. If an update fails, the browser profile is damaged, or the disk fills up, that single copy can be lost. Tabuoy keeps more than one copy:
- Daily snapshots of all your sessions, kept inside the browser (30 versions by default). You can roll back from the Backups tab.
- Backup files: a JSON file written to
Downloads/Tabuoyon a schedule you choose (weekly by default). You can keep it, copy it to another drive, or import it on another computer. - A snapshot before every extension update, so a failed update cannot take your data with it.
- Closed windows are saved automatically, including the last session when the browser closes.
Restoring without freezing the browser
- Large sessions open as parked tabs that only load when you click them.
- Restore a whole session, one window, or a single tab. Pinned tabs and tab groups (names and colours) come back as they were.
- Search every saved tab by title or URL.
No account, no cloud
There is no sign-up and no server. Tabuoy makes no network requests of its own, and your tabs stay in your browser and in the backup files you keep. Details are in the privacy policy.
How to move from OneTab
- Open OneTab and choose Export / Import URLs.
- Copy all the text in the export box (each line looks like
URL | Title). - Open the Tabuoy manager (from the Tabuoy toolbar button, or press
Ctrl+Shift+Y) and go to Import / Export. - Paste the text and click Import. Each OneTab group becomes a Tabuoy session.
How to move from Session Buddy
- In Session Buddy, export your collections or sessions as a JSON file.
- In the Tabuoy manager, open Import / Export.
- Choose the JSON file (or paste its contents) and click Import.
Import adds to what you already have. Leave the "Replace everything" box unchecked unless you mean to start over; even then, Tabuoy takes a snapshot first.
